From Au Lac Designs, a fair trade group. Ha Dong, a village in Vietnam’s Ha Tay region, has been producing exquisite silk for over two thousand years. Using tradtional methods, small groups of rural poor – usually families and women – spin, weave and dye the silk thread by hand. The artists then hand-sew the fabric into beautiful quilts and other accessories. Buying these products helps the artisans directly, creating sustainable development in exceptionally poor rural Vietnamese communities.
Dramatic hand-dyed silk taffeta is embroidered and stitched by a collective of struggling farmers who have been taught tailoring skills. 16″W x 9″H; 9″ strap drop.
